Gel Polish OEM: The Full Process, Step by Step
Six stages from first email to shipping container β what happens at each one, how long it takes, and what the factory needs from you to keep it moving.
Most first-time buyers lose two to three weeks not on production but on confusion β sending a shade photo instead of a physical swatch, approving artwork before the bottle is chosen, discovering the label size is wrong after the print run. The process itself is not complicated. It just has an order, and skipping a step costs more than following it.
Stage 1 β Brief and formula matching
You send what you have: a competitor bottle, a Pantone number, a physical swatch, or a photo. Photos are the weakest input because screens shift color and lighting lies. A physical swatch the size of a fingernail is worth more than twenty emails. From that, we propose a base formula β standard, HEMA-free, TPO-free, or a specific viscosity for a particular brush and application style.
Stage 2 β Sampling
Sampling takes 7 to 10 working days for a new shade and 3 to 5 days for a match against an existing formula in our library. You get 5 ml sample bottles, usually three to five shades per round. Two rounds is normal. Three means something in the brief was unclear β usually the finish, not the color.
Stage 3 β Packaging and label
Bottle, brush, cap and label are chosen here, not later. The brush matters more than buyers expect: a flat brush lays color differently from a round one, and the wrong brush makes a good formula feel cheap. Label artwork goes to print only after the bottle is in hand and the dieline is confirmed against the actual curve of the surface.
Stage 4 β Pre-production approval
Before mass production, you sign off on a golden sample β the exact bottle that production will be measured against. Keep it. Every batch afterwards is compared to that bottle under the same light, and any dispute is settled by that comparison, not by memory.
Stage 5 β Mass production
Production runs 25 to 30 days for a standard order, including filling, capping, labeling and curing checks. Capacity is roughly 5,000 bottles per day on a single line. Peak season β August through November, when brands build stock for the fourth quarter β adds a week if you book late.
Stage 6 β QC and shipping
Every batch is checked for viscosity, cure time, color against the golden sample, and fill weight. You receive a certificate of analysis with the shipment. Export documents β MSDS, non-dangerous goods declaration, commercial invoice, packing list β are prepared in parallel so the container is not waiting on paperwork.
What actually slows a project down
- Approving color from a phone screen instead of a physical swatch
- Choosing packaging after the formula is locked, which forces a re-fill
- Label artwork that does not fit the bottle curve
- One decision-maker too many β four people approving a shade means four rounds
A clean OEM project from brief to shipped container is 45 to 60 days. Most of the overrun is decision latency, not manufacturing. If you have a shade in mind, send it β we will tell you honestly whether it is a library match or a new development.
